Wuhan Electric Apparatus Research Institute Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as Wuhan Electric Institute) was founded in 1978, formerly known as Wuhan Computer Peripheral Equipment Research Institute. In July 1999, it joined China National Machinery Industry Corporation (hereinafter referred to as SINOMACH). In March 2005, in accordance with SINOMACH's strategic development plan, it was reorganized with Guangzhou Electrical Science Research Institute and became its directly affiliated enterprise. In November 2016, in accordance with strategic development needs, it was officially renamed "Wuhan Electric Science Research Institute". In December 2017, it completed the corporate restructuring and changed its registration to "Wuhan Electric Apparatus Research Institute Co., Ltd.". In April 2021, the superior managing unit changed from Guangzhou Electrical Science Research Institute Co., Ltd. to SINOMACH Asset Management Co., Ltd. In February 2024, the superior supervising unit changed to China Electrical Science Research Institute Co., Ltd.

Wuhan Electric Institute has made significant progress and development in the fields of electronic and electrical product safety performance testing equipment, material flame retardancy performance testing equipment, electrical appliance accessories performance and reliability testing equipment, toy and lamp performance and reliability testing equipment, factory and power plant monitoring systems, oilfield drilling and production control equipment, and intelligent crane control equipment, and has become one of the industry's equipment manufacturers with a wider market coverage and higher technical level;
